The GN Hotel is a 101-room facility with a small convention center, retail shops, and a swimming pool. Located in the Great Northern Center, a large urban redevelopment of anabandoned rail yard in downtown Helena, Montana, the hotel serves the needs of downtown Helena as well as guests from the surrounding office buildings which are also newly constructed. Adjacent to the historic Last Chance Gulch district, the architecture of the Center is a contemporary interpretation of Helenaís rich, turn-of-the-century architectural heritage. The varied facade treatment of the hotel and the retail components serve to reduce the scale of the building.
Connected to the hotel is the Empire Block, a three-story retail/office building with a main level fine dining restaurant accessible from the hotel lobby. The Empire Block is also designed by A&E.
