Wells Fargo Service Company, the operations side of Wells Fargo Banking, required a new Operations Center as it expanded its presence in the west, and in Billings, Montana. A Banker Connection group also provided a virtual call center, serving system support needs to bankers throughout the Wells Fargo System. Communication and interaction between the two groups was important to the ongoing performance of each. The new building was programmed to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week requiring restricted access and employee security of the highest priority.
A&E Architects was selected to design the facility based upon the successes of previous Wells Fargo projects. The new 165,000 square foot Loan Operations Center was the first of its kind. Located on a 12.6 acre site in the Homestead Business Park on the south end of Billings, all plans and specifications were subject to very restrictive design guidelines established by the Homestead Owners Association. A very tight project delivery schedule required A&E to produce a concept, schematic design, design development, and construction documents in a period of five months, and support the general contractor through thirteen months of construction coordination to meet the occupancy requirements.
The open-office workstation environment is broken down into team concepts each having a managers office, conference room, restrooms, coat closet, and information technology closet clustered around them. The open office environment is oriented north to take advantage of large expanses of translucent wall panels that provide indirect day lighting to support interior architectural lighting.
