Derek’s fascination for architecture stems from childhood, specifically the moment he received his first set of Legos. Fascination turned into passion when his parents began construction on their new family home. Derek still remembers walking in between the studs of the walls, moving from room to room. Witnessing the process of building a house from the ground up made a significant impact on Derek, and ultimately shaped his decision to pursue architecture as an adult. Today, he enjoys the conceptual design process, skilled in 3D modeling, rendering, drawing, and graphics. Outside of the office, Derek’s drawing talents take new form. He owns a small T-shirt design company, specializing in printing topographic maps onto clothing. He also enjoys downhill skiing and contributing to his “bad” habit of collecting one too many skis.
